Appliance Installation Help for UK Muslim Households

Last updated 21 May 2026

A new washing machine, oven, hob or dishwasher needs more than dropping it into place — water, drainage, electrical connection and (for gas hobs) a Gas Safe engineer. This page connects you with helpers and qualified installers.

WHO THIS PAGE IS FOR

  • Households fitting new white goods
  • Muslim families moving into a new property
  • Helpers offering install support

What needs a qualified installer

Gas hobs and gas ovens — always Gas Safe registered (legally required). Electric ovens hard-wired into a cooker outlet — Part P registered electrician. Plumbing connection for dishwashers and washing machines — most plumbers or self-installers if existing connections are in place.

If the new appliance is a like-for-like replacement and the existing supplies are sound, a confident DIY install for a washing machine or dishwasher is realistic. Helpers can walk through the steps.

When the retailer’s install is worth it

Many UK appliance retailers (AO, Currys, John Lewis) sell installation as an add-on for £20–£60. For a first-time installer, this is usually worth it — they take the old appliance away and handle disposal. For experienced DIYers, skipping it saves money but you’re responsible for safe disposal of the old unit.

Disposal of the old appliance

UK councils take large appliances under WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) — usually a paid collection. Some charities take working appliances. Most retailers offer same-day take-away on a paid install.

How Muslims Help Muslims works

1

Submit your request or browse support

Create a free account, pick the category that fits your situation and write a short, honest post. You can stay anonymous in the public listing.

2

The platform connects you with helpers

Helpers and donors browsing your city or category will see the request and message you privately to offer support.

3

Talk it through safely

Agree the help in private messaging. Share only what you need to share — never share bank details publicly.

4

Close the case and follow up

When the help has landed, mark the case closed. Optional follow-up keeps the door open for further support if needed.

Trust and safety

Email verification gates the messaging system, and sensitive details are never shown on the public homepage. You can post anonymously, limit who can contact you, and decide what to share in messages.

Muslims Help Muslims is a connecting platform — we do not hold or distribute donations, and we don’t claim to vet every helper. Always keep bank details out of public posts, take your time when accepting offers, and read our Safety Tips before posting your first request.
