FINANCIAL · PILLAR
If you are facing a tight month, a job loss, rent arrears, or a sudden cost you can’t cover, this pillar is the place to start. Muslims Help Muslims connects people in need with community helpers, donors and supporters across the United Kingdom.
Financial pressure can hit anyone — a parent waiting on Universal Credit, a student between contracts, a family newly arrived to the UK, or a household stretched by a sudden bill. The Financial & Basic Needs pillar is built around the everyday categories where Muslims most often need a hand: paying rent, feeding the family, covering an unexpected cost, finding work, or asking for Zakat or Sadaqah help in a dignified way.
If you are unsure where your request belongs, you can post in the general feed and a moderator will tag it to the right category. There is no requirement to share your full story — only what helpers genuinely need to understand the request.
Every request goes through the same simple route. A seeker posts what they need. Helpers in the area — community members, donors and partner organisations — see the request in the feed or via category filters. They can offer support directly, share useful resources, or refer the seeker to a relevant local service. The platform handles the messaging, optional contact preferences, and a closure step so we can learn which requests were resolved.
We deliberately avoid public exposure of sensitive information. Names, locations and contact details are gated behind the messaging system, and seekers can choose to remain anonymous in the public listing.
The Financial & Basic Needs pillar groups three sub-areas. Each has its own page with the most common services, eligibility notes and how-to guidance:
Financial Relief brings together the most urgent money-related help on Muslims Help Muslims. If you’re a step away from missing a rent payment, running out of food, or facing an unexpected bill, this is the page that lists the right service for your situation.
Housing Support is for households who are still in their home but at risk, or who have just moved and don’t have the basics yet. We point you to the right financial or practical help, and to qualified housing advice for anything legal.
If you are looking for your first UK role, returning after a career break, switching sector, or trying to break out of an unfair workplace, the Jobs subcategory is built for you. Helpers here are Muslim professionals who volunteer time across CV review, interview prep, mock interviews, referrals and ongoing mentoring.
If a fridge has stopped cooling, a laptop won’t turn on, or the WiFi has been dropping for a week, this page is where to start. Muslims Help Muslims connects you with community helpers who may offer guidance, a referral to a trusted local trader, or practical hands-on support when it’s safe to do so.
Cleaning is one of the most common practical asks on the platform — especially around moves, after an illness, before a family gathering, or when a household just can’t keep up. This page lists the cleaning sub-services and explains how community helpers respond.
Anything involving mains electricity or fixed wiring needs a qualified electrician — that’s the rule on this platform. The Electrical Services page exists to help you find one through the community, get a sanity-check from someone who knows their way around a fuse board, or arrange a small installation when it’s safe to do so.
Transport gaps cost a household more than money — missed appointments, missed school runs, missed hospital visits. This page lists the ways the platform connects you to community helpers who drive, share lifts, or arrange transport when a Muslim family genuinely needs it.
Burst pipe, blocked drain, leaking radiator, no hot water — plumbing problems escalate fast. This page connects you with the UK Muslim community for trusted plumber referrals, emergency cover, and small-fix guidance when it’s safe to DIY.
Painting and decorating is one of the most common practical asks on the platform — before Ramadan or Eid, after a tenancy change, or for a family who can’t do it themselves. This page connects you with community helpers and Muslim decorators.
Flat-pack assembly is the volunteer-friendly end of household help — a couple of hours, some Allen keys, and a wardrobe gets built. This page connects you with helpers who can do that, plus paid Muslim handymen for bigger jobs.
Home Repair & Handyman is the home of small-job requests — a sticking door, a wonky shelf, a broken lock, a dripping tap. This page connects you with Muslim handymen and community helpers who handle these jobs at a fair price or, for hardship cases, on Sadaqah.
Moving day is one of the most stressful days a household goes through. This page connects you with Muslim man-and-van operators, community helpers with a free Saturday, and donors who can cover a one-off move for a hardship case.
An overgrown garden makes a house feel worse than it is. This page connects you with community helpers and Muslim gardeners who can cut grass, clear weeds, trim hedges and take garden waste away.
Family Crisis Support
When a family situation is at breaking point, the first need is often someone who will listen without judgement. This page explains how Muslims Help Muslims supports Muslim families in the UK through community listeners and signposting — and where to go for clinical help when that’s the right step.
