Wall Mounting Help in the UK

Last updated 22 May 2026

Mounting items on a UK wall — heavy framed Islamic calligraphy, mirrors, kitchen cabinets, floating units — comes down to two things: the right fixing for the wall type, and a level eye. This page connects you with helpers who'll do both. (Different from TV mounting — see the TV Mounting page for that.)

WHO THIS PAGE IS FOR

  • Families hanging mirrors, frames or Islamic art
  • Owners fitting kitchen wall units
  • Helpers with drill and stud-finder skills

Identify the wall first

Tap the wall — solid 'thud' is brick/concrete, hollow tap is plasterboard. UK new-builds and most extensions are plasterboard on timber stud; older terraces are usually solid brick under plaster. Different fixings entirely.

Right fixings for weight

Solid brick: brown plug + 50mm steel screw for most loads up to 15kg per fixing. Plasterboard with stud behind: woodscrew into the stud, no plug needed. Plasterboard alone: snap-toggle or geefix-style toggles, rated 20–40kg each. Heavy mirrors (10kg+): always use two fixings and find studs.

Islamic calligraphy and large frames

Many Muslim families hang large framed Ayat al-Kursi or 99 Names pieces in the living room. These often weigh 5–12kg with the glass. Two fixings minimum, level checked, anchored into studs where possible. A helper can mount it once instead of you trying twice.

How Muslims Help Muslims works

1

Submit your request or browse support

Create a free account, pick the category that fits your situation and write a short, honest post. You can stay anonymous in the public listing.

2

The platform connects you with helpers

Helpers and donors browsing your city or category will see the request and message you privately to offer support.

3

Talk it through safely

Agree the help in private messaging. Share only what you need to share — never share bank details publicly.

4

Close the case and follow up

When the help has landed, mark the case closed. Optional follow-up keeps the door open for further support if needed.

Trust and safety

Email verification gates the messaging system, and sensitive details are never shown on the public homepage. You can post anonymously, limit who can contact you, and decide what to share in messages.

Muslims Help Muslims is a connecting platform — we do not hold or distribute donations, and we don’t claim to vet every helper. Always keep bank details out of public posts, take your time when accepting offers, and read our Safety Tips before posting your first request.
