Door Repair Help for UK Muslim Households

Last updated 21 May 2026

Doors are the most-used moving parts in a house. They drop, stick, slam, and over time their hinges and latches give way. This page helps you get them working again.

WHO THIS PAGE IS FOR

  • Households with sticking or damaged doors
  • Helpers comfortable with hinges and frames
  • Muslim handymen

Common door problems and what they mean

Sticking on the latch side — usually loose hinge screws or settled hinges, easy fix. Dropping at the top — hinge screws stripped, needs longer screws or wooden plugs. Slamming or won't close — frame distorted, usually needs planing. Lock won't turn — internal cylinder worn, swap the lock.

When to repair vs replace

Internal doors are cheap (£40–£90 from B&Q) and easy to fit. UPVC and composite external doors are expensive and worth repairing if the frame is sound. Original timber doors in a Victorian or Edwardian house are worth repairing — usually a planing and hinge job.

4

Close the case and follow up

When the help has landed, mark the case closed. Optional follow-up keeps the door open for further support if needed.
