Muslim Refugee Orientation Support in the UK

Last updated 21 May 2026

The first weeks in the UK as a Muslim refugee or asylum seeker are practically and emotionally heavy. This page connects you with helpers who'll show you how to register with a GP, open a bank account, get the kids into school, and find the local mosque.

WHO THIS PAGE IS FOR

  • Recently arrived Muslim refugees and asylum seekers
  • Resettled families
  • Helpers and community befrienders

First-month checklist

Register with a GP (free, no immigration status required for registration). Get the children into school (priority admission for refugees). Open a basic bank account (HSBC and Lloyds run no-paperwork refugee accounts). Apply for a National Insurance number if you have leave to work. Register with the mosque nearest your address.

Specialist UK refugee charities

Refugee Council. City of Sanctuary. RAMFEL. British Red Cross. Asylum Aid. The Children's Society for unaccompanied minors.

How Muslims Help Muslims works

1

Submit your request or browse support

Create a free account, pick the category that fits your situation and write a short, honest post. You can stay anonymous in the public listing.

2

The platform connects you with helpers

Helpers and donors browsing your city or category will see the request and message you privately to offer support.

3

Talk it through safely

Agree the help in private messaging. Share only what you need to share — never share bank details publicly.

4

Close the case and follow up

When the help has landed, mark the case closed. Optional follow-up keeps the door open for further support if needed.

Trust and safety

Email verification gates the messaging system, and sensitive details are never shown on the public homepage. You can post anonymously, limit who can contact you, and decide what to share in messages.

Muslims Help Muslims is a connecting platform — we do not hold or distribute donations, and we don’t claim to vet every helper. Always keep bank details out of public posts, take your time when accepting offers, and read our Safety Tips before posting your first request.
