Mosque Stay Coordination in the UK

Last updated 22 May 2026

A handful of UK mosques quietly host travellers, students stranded between lets, and newly arrived families for one or two nights. This page connects you with helpers and mosque committees who can coordinate a stay where one exists — and signposts safer routes when it doesn't.

WHO THIS PAGE IS FOR

  • Travelling brothers/sisters caught short
  • Newly arrived Muslim families pre-tenancy
  • Students between lets
  • Mosque committees offering occasional stays

What mosque stays are — and aren't

A few UK mosques (mostly larger central ones) maintain a small number of dorm-style beds for travelling Muslims or stranded families. They are usually 1–3 nights, gender-separated, and arranged through a mosque trustee or imam. They are not homeless shelters — local authority housing options is the right route for homelessness (see Homelessness Prevention).

How a helper coordinates a stay

A helper familiar with the local mosque network can phone ahead to check availability, brief the trustee on who is coming, confirm gender, dietary and access needs, and pass on contact details. They can also coordinate food, clothing and onward travel if you arrive late.

If no mosque can take you tonight

Call the local council's out-of-hours housing options team. Shelter (0808 800 4444) can talk through emergency duties. Refuge (0808 2000 247) is the dedicated route for women fleeing domestic abuse. Community helpers can also coordinate a one-night host stay through the Host Family Short Stay page.

How Muslims Help Muslims works

1

Submit your request or browse support

Create a free account, pick the category that fits your situation and write a short, honest post. You can stay anonymous in the public listing.

2

The platform connects you with helpers

Helpers and donors browsing your city or category will see the request and message you privately to offer support.

3

Talk it through safely

Agree the help in private messaging. Share only what you need to share — never share bank details publicly.

4

Close the case and follow up

When the help has landed, mark the case closed. Optional follow-up keeps the door open for further support if needed.

Trust and safety

Email verification gates the messaging system, and sensitive details are never shown on the public homepage. You can post anonymously, limit who can contact you, and decide what to share in messages.

Muslims Help Muslims is a connecting platform — we do not hold or distribute donations, and we don’t claim to vet every helper. Always keep bank details out of public posts, take your time when accepting offers, and read our Safety Tips before posting your first request.
