Homelessness Prevention for Muslim Households in the UK

Last updated 21 May 2026

Most UK homelessness is preventable if action starts early enough. This page sets out the legal protections you have, the people to contact today, and how the Muslim community can help cover the gap.

WHO THIS PAGE IS FOR

  • Tenants facing eviction in 56 days or fewer
  • Families with rent arrears piling up
  • Helpers willing to accompany during council appointments

Your legal protections

The Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 places a duty on councils to help if you’re homeless or threatened with homelessness within 56 days. Present in person at the housing options team with any eviction paperwork. Shelter (0808 800 4444) can help you understand what duty applies to you.

What helpers do alongside

Accompany you to the council appointment. Read paperwork. Help write the personal housing plan. For hardship cases, donors may cover a single month of arrears to halt the proceedings.

How Muslims Help Muslims works

1

Submit your request or browse support

Create a free account, pick the category that fits your situation and write a short, honest post. You can stay anonymous in the public listing.

2

The platform connects you with helpers

Helpers and donors browsing your city or category will see the request and message you privately to offer support.

3

Talk it through safely

Agree the help in private messaging. Share only what you need to share — never share bank details publicly.

4

Close the case and follow up

When the help has landed, mark the case closed. Optional follow-up keeps the door open for further support if needed.

Trust and safety

Email verification gates the messaging system, and sensitive details are never shown on the public homepage. You can post anonymously, limit who can contact you, and decide what to share in messages.

Muslims Help Muslims is a connecting platform — we do not hold or distribute donations, and we don’t claim to vet every helper. Always keep bank details out of public posts, take your time when accepting offers, and read our Safety Tips before posting your first request.
